Debug Clinic #2 - Building a Stronger Bot Foundation

Here’s a breakdown of the core takeaways from the April Debug Clinic with @chad 's Botato for anyone looking to tighten up their bot fundamentals:

1. Cancel Logic (Top Priority)
If a building is about to die during construction, cancel it. Saves resources, saves games. Low effort, high return.

2. Core Army Composition Matters
Early to midgame, your best bet is Marines + Tanks + Medivacs. Drop the tier 1 spam once you’re past the early phase. Stick to a core that actually scales.

3. Scans Over Overbuilding Detection
Start using Orbital Scans to gather info. Don’t overcommit to tech (like early Ravens) unless you actually need it. Scans are cheap and fast intel.

Other Good Practices to Layer In:

  • Scout Early :eyes:
└️ Send an SCV early. If you don’t see an expansion by ~3:00, assume cheese. Shift your build accordingly.

  • Game Phase Awareness
└️ Early (0–6 min), Mid (6–12 min), Late (12+ min). Your bot should change its unit production as time progresses.

  • Resource Reallocation During Cheese
└️ If cheese is detected, cancel fancy tech builds and go hard into Marines/Tanks.

Summary:

Tighten survival with Cancel Logic.
Build the right Army.
Scout and Scan smartly.
Stop wasting resources early.

Focus on locking these down before chasing more complex behaviors. Solid foundations win games.
